GOAL SETTING–INGREDIENCE OF EXCELLENCE AND MENTAL HEALTH: Lesson 19 supplement

Successful Women Think Differently

“Today, scientific research is proving what ancient Scripture has known all along: Successful women think differently than the average woman. They make decisions differently, set goals differently, and bounce back from failure and adversity differently. Their thought process empowers them to produce the results they want — in their relationships, finances, work, health, and spiritual lives.” (Called Magazine)

Successful women are Resilient.

The 5 Characteristics of a Resilient Woman

You can change your life by simply changing the way you think!

 Brave and Courageous

Resilient women are at peace with who they are.

1 Peter 3:4 rather let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God.

They have been humbled and have accepted their own vulnerability in life experiences. Their imperfections don’t stop them. Resilient women possess a spirit of willingness to learn from their mistakes and make corrections that lead to excellent outcomes.

 Use Good Judgement

Resilient women notice when their thinking is negative and counterproductive.

They don’t jump to conclusions or make assumptions. They find out the facts and confront challenges head on. They focus on what’s within their control and work diligently for more than earthly gain.

Colossians 3:23 And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men.

Optimistic

Resilient women see the value in positive thinking.

They always see the bright side; knowing that optimism is good for their overall health. Their hopeful positive attitude is deeply rooted in their faith. Resilient women believe that something good is possible even when faced with challenges.

Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord. They are plans for good and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.

Resourceful

Resilient women don’t go it alone.

They are not too proud to ask for help. They have been wise in developing relationships with others who are influential and productive. In the midst of crazy chaotic moments, they have also learned to draw inner strength from their Heavenly Father.

Proverbs 3:5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding.

Aware of Their Talents

Resilient women don’t waste time worrying what they don’t have.

Instead, they have recognized their talents and passionately spend time developing them into strengths. God has given each of us natural talents, so don’t overlook or under utilize yours.

Psalm 28:8 God is all strength for His people.

Resilient women recognize that God’s presence gives confidence to handle all of life’s responsibilities.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                       Scripture Memorization

“God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love, and of self-discipline.” 2 Timothy 1:7

To achieve living at a higher level we need goals that strive for mental excellence of courage, passion and discipline  “All truth is given by revelation, either general or special, and it must be received by reason. Reason is the God-given means for discovering the truth that God discloses, whether in his world or his Word. While God wants to reach the heart with truth, he does not bypass the mind.”Jonathan Edwards

The basic problem is we women wear so many different hats. We are at work thinking we should be home with our family. Or we are at home thinking we should be at work.  So many of us are dashing back  and forth from one responsibility to other we are never mentally in the present. I am Guilty. Not only in daily responsibility of work and family but in a treasured spa day. I have missed the tranquility of the experience because I was not fully there. My mind was traveling aimlessly. I was definitely somewhere else. If you find that you are in this dilemma and it seems you have little time to accomplish anything, Goal setting is the answer. The basic problem isn’t lack of time but lack of direction.

Take the Vision, Write it down, Make it plain so you can run with it” Habakkuk 2:2 Get back on track with goal setting and time management so you can be fully present and engaged. Lets get equipped with courage, passion and disciple for the work God has given us to do.

The Study: Living INTENTIONALLY.

Reading from the book of Ruth, chapter 3, “One day her mother-in-law Naomi said to Ruth, ‘My dear daughter isn’t it about time I arranged a good home for you so you can have a happy life?’ Ruth said, ‘If you say so, I’ll do it, just as you’ve told me.'”

story—she marries Boaz and gives birth to a son. Obed

Obed was the father of Jesse, and Jesse the father of David.  King David.  It was from his family line that our Savior, the Messiah was born.  Ruth’s purpose revealed!

Reading from the book of Esther 4: 13-16 “ Mordecai answered, ‘Do not think that you in the king’s special house will live any more than all the other Jews. For if you keep quiet at this time, help will come to the Jews from another place. But you and your father’s house will be destroyed. Who knows if you have not become queen for such a time as this?’ Then Esther told them to say to Mordecai, Go, gather together all the Jews who are in Susa, and have them all go without food so they can pray better for me. Do not eat or drink for three days, night or day. I and my women servants will go without food in the same way. Then I will go in to the king, which is against the law. And if I die, I die.'”

God loves when we live boldly, courageously and confidently. I am not speaking of an attitude of arrogance but of an attitude” I can do all things through Christ who is my strength”.

PicMonkey CollageEsther’s plan of action was bathed in wise counsel, prayer and fasting.

The result of the action plan–the end of Ruth’s

What can we learn from Ruth and Esther’s story:

1. Willing hearts do what is right.

2. Having a humble spirit lends to wise counsel.

3. That faith and blessing is seldom familiar or comfortable, but God’s presence is its worthy reward.

To Live Intentionally—you must have Goals!photo (25)

“Goals are good.

They create activity.

The activity creates excitement!

And goals chase the blues away.

I don’t anyone who has a specific quantifiable goal in place who is discouraged or depressed.” Zig Ziglar

Pursuing a life of excellence requires that we do our part. We need to be actively setting goals to obtain the ingredients of excellence and to live with a healthy mind.

Lets revisit the value of personal assessment. The purpose of a personal self-assessment is to get to know who you are better. Understanding where you are helps to give you a clearer picture of where you want to be.  Personal self-assessment assists in identifying your likes, dislikes, personal characteristics, values, wants, needs, strengths and weaknesses.  First knowing who you are is a significant step that must be taken before you can begin writing goals for yourself . If you have not done a thorough personal assessment Go to http://www.16personalities.com and complete the assessment.

Women, we need to live intentionally. We need to deliberately live God’s way.

“But what happens when we live God’s way? He brings gifts into our lives, much the same way that fruit appears in an orchard—things like affection for others, exuberance about life and serenity. We develop a willingness to stick with things, a sense of compassion in the heart, and a conviction that a basic holiness permeates things and people. We find ourselves involved in loyal commitments, not needing to force our way in life, able to marshal and direct our energies wisely.” Galatians 5:22, The Message

Promise

“The Lord will withhold no good thing from those who do what is right.”

Blessing

“I pray that God will be kind to you and will bless you with peace!”

A Winter Song of Worship and Praise adapted from Psalm 138, 144, 145 & 146

Jehovah-Sel’i – Lord my Rock

Praise and thanks be to You, O Lord. You are my rock, my wall of strength and my strong place.  You are the One who sets me free and provides a safe covering. You are the One I trust completely. I will sing a new song and give you all of my praise.

Thank you for my life. Even if I walk into trouble, You keep me safe. You put out Your hand against the anger of those who hate me and Your right hand saves me. You do not turn away from me even though my life is like a breath and my days are like a passing shadow. You have promised to finish the work You started in me. Knowing of this promise brings a smile to my face. Thank you!

Thank you for my children. May they mature to full growth in Your love and be like the corner pieces of a great house that cherishes the praise of Your Name.  May there be no cry of trouble in their streets. May they experience Your constant presence and peace.

I will sing praises to my God as long as I live, for my family’s happiness is in You, and our hope lies in You, O Lord our God.

You made the heavens, the earth, the seas and all that is in them. You are faithful forever.  You help those who have a bad power over them. You give food to the hungry. You set free those who are in prison. You open the eyes of the blind. You raise up those who are brought down and love those who are right and good. You keep the strangers safe and take care of the children who have no father and the woman whose husband has died.

My God, you are so good! You will rule forever! I will sing praises to You as long as I live.  I will sing a new song for my hope lies in You, O Lord our God.

You answered me on the day I called. You gave my soul strength. Daily I will bow down toward Your holy house, giving thanks to Your name for Your loving-kindness and Your truth. Thank you, Lord, for meeting all my needs and my desires. You held me when I fell, raised me up and called me to live at a higher level. You opened Your hand and filled my desire. You are right and good in Your ways. I will give You thanks with all my heart and give You all of my praise.

You are truly near to all who call on You in truth. You fill the desire of those who fear You. You hear their cry and save them. You take care of all who love You. Thank you for Your goodness, Lord. You are too great for anyone to understand. I will think about Your power and Your great works for You are full of loving-favor and pity, slow to anger and great in loving-kindness. My mouth will give You all of my praise

An Evening Prayer

A Prayer to Jehovah-Keren-Yish’i – Horn of Salvation

Here I am again on my knees, O Lord, in the midst of my darkest night.  As You are the One Who saves me, please listen to my cry. Let my prayer come to You. My soul is filled with troubles. My small world is out of control. These troubles haunt me. My limbs shake with fear. My eyes are weak. I am without strength. Every breath I take appears to be my last. God, You are my last chance of the day. As You are the One Who saves me, please listen to my cry.

I will call to You, O Lord. I will spread out my hands to You. Show Your mercy and favor to me. Allow Your great works to be known in my darkness. As You are the One Who saves me, please listen to my cry.

O Lord, My prayer comes again to You as the morning sun appears before me. I have suffered through the night and I cannot win. O Lord, do not turn away from me.  Do not hide Your face from me? You are the God Who saves me.

I will call to You, O Lord. I will spread out my hands to You. Show Your mercy and favor to me. Allow Your great works to be known in my darkness. As You are the One Who saves me, please listen to my cry.

A Winter Song of Worship and Praise adapted from Psalm 3, 22, & 29

Jehovah-Kabodhi – Lord my Glory

I will be faithful to honor You, Lord, for the glory of Your name. In the splendor of Your holiness, I will fall down and worship You. Be close to me! You bring me strength. In Your faithfulness, You answer me and save me.   Lord my glory!

Salvation belongs to You alone for Your blessing is upon me. You shield me. You are the One who lifts up my head when I do not have the strength. I cry to You and You hear me.

I will make Your name known. I will praise You. I fear You and will give You all my praise. I will honor You and fear You, for You have not turned away from my suffering or trouble. You have heard my cry. My praise will be from You. I will keep my promises to You in front of those who fear You. Those who look for You will praise You. May Your heart live forever!

O Lord, be close to me! O my Strength, save my life for You are faithful to answer me. Save me, O my God!

Salvation belongs to You alone for Your blessing is upon me. You are a shield and the One who lifts up my head.  I will be faithful to honor You for the glory of Your name. In the splendor of Your holiness, I will fall down and worship You.

All the ends of the earth will remember and turn to You. All the families of the nations will worship before You. For the holy nation is Yours, and You rule over all the nations. All the proud ones of the earth will worship. All who go down to the dust will fall to their knees before You, even those who cannot keep their soul alive. Future children will serve You, and they will tell of Your greatness to their children. They will tell of Your saving power to a people who are yet to be born. Your mighty voice  echoes above the sea. Your voice is powerful and majestic. Your voice strikes with bolts of lightning as You rule over the floodwaters. In all Your glory, You reign as King forever.

Your blessing is upon me. It brings peace to my chaos. O Lord, You are a shield for me and the One who lifts up my head when I have lost all strength.  I will be faithful to honor You for the glory of Your name and will fall down and worship You in the splendor of Your holiness

A Winter Prayer of Petition and Blessing adapted by Psalm 4, 6, 7 & 141

An Evening Prayer

Jehovah-Magen – Lord the  Shield of my help; Deuteronomy 33:29

O Lord my God, in You I have put my trust.

Awaken, my God, and help me for I cannot sleep. Prove what is  right.

Build me up for I desire to be right with You. For You are right and good and the One who tests both my heart and mind. O Lord, do not speak sharp words or punish me when You are angry. Be kind to me for I am weak and so tired. Heal me for my bones are shaken. My soul is in great suffering.

Return, O Lord. Set my soul free. Save me because of Your loving-kindness.

I am tired of crying inside. All night long my pillow is wet with tears. I flood my bed with them. My eyes have grown weak with sorrow. Lord, You hear the sound of my crying and my desperate plea for help. Receive my prayer, tonight. Answer me, O my God Who is right and good! You have faithfully made a way for me when I needed help. Please grace me with Your kindness and hear my prayer.

You, Oh Lord, set apart the one who is God-like for Yourself.

Hear me when I call. While I am on my bed, may I look into my heart and be quiet. May I feel the light of Your face shine on me.  Your presence has filled my heart with happiness and brought peace as I lie down to sleep.

I call upon You, O Lord. Hurry to me! Hear my voice when I call to You! May my prayer be like special perfume before You. May the lifting up of my hands be like the evening gift given on the altar in worship. O Lord, put a watch over my mouth. Keep watch over the door of my lips. Do not let my heart turn to any sinful thing. I am kept safe as You save those who are pure in heart. You are always right in how You judge

In the quiet of this night I will give thanks to and will sing praise to Your name Most High. For my eyes are toward You, O God. In You, I am safe.

“There is something about writing – something about jotting down how we’ve felt and what we’ve learned in a fleeting moment on a day that may have seemed otherwise unremarkable. We so often remember the grandest core memories – where God’s work so evident, He seemingly all but showed up and shook hands around the room. But when life moved fast, smaller moments move faster and even the most joyful ones dissipate to join those now forgotten. Journaling can preserve them.”

A Fall Song of Worship and Praise adapted from Psalm 89

Jehovah-Yasha

The Lord my Savior

Your love, God, is my song, and I will sing it!

I will forever speak of Your faithfulness. I will forever tell the story of Your love.  I will rejoice all day long in Your wonderful reputation and in Your perfect righteousness. Your love will be built up in me forever and ever.

O God, let the heavens praise Your wonderful ways.

Let the choir of angels sing anthems to Your faithfulness! You are honored in the heavens, Lord God of all, powerful Lord. The evidence of Your faithfulness is all around. You rule the rising sea; its waves rise and You quiet them. The heavens are Yours.  The earth is Yours. You made everything that I can see and more.  You have made it all from nothing. Your hand is powerful.

Your throne, O Lord, is founded on two strong pillars: justice and righteousness. These pillars are my strength.  Mercy and truth walk before You.  Your divine favor is my treasure. You are my Father, my God and the Rock that continues to save me.

Your love, God, is my song and I will never stop singing it from Your holy mountains.

A Fall Prayer of Petition and Blessing adapted from Psalm 51, 65, 69 & 70

Prayer of the Sinner

O God, hurry to take me out of trouble. Hurry to help me!

Take away my wrongdoing because of the greatness of Your loving pity. Wash me inside and out from my wrongdoing and make me clean from my sin. For I know my wrongdoing and my sin is always in front of me. I have sinned against You and You only. I have done what is sinful in Your eyes. You are always right when You speak, and fair when You judge.Prayer

O God, take away my sin and cleanse me.

Wash me and I will be whiter than snow. Make me joyful and happy. Favor me because of Your loving kindness. Let me always look for You. Let me be glad in You. For I long to experience the full joy of Your forgiveness.

I was born in sin and lived in sin from my very beginning.  Your desire is for truth to be rooted deep within my heart and for me to know wisdom in the hidden part. But I am poor and in need.

Hurry to me, O God! You are my Help and the One Who takes me out of trouble. O Lord, do not wait.

Save me, for the waters have almost taken my life.  I have come into deep waters where floods come over me.  I have gone down into the deep mud and there is no place to put my feet. I have cried until I am tired. My

mouth is dry. My eyes are weak. You know how foolish I am. My sins are not hidden from You.

Answer me with Your saving truth in Your great loving-kindness, O God. Take me out of the mud and do not let me go down again. Guard me from those who hate me. Pluck me from the floodwaters and keep them from covering me. Do not let the sea swallow me up. Do not let the deep hole close its mouth over me. Answer me, O Lord, for Your loving-kindness is good. I am suffering and in pain. Save me and set me up on high.  I will praise Your name with song and I will give You great honor with much thanks.

May heaven, earth, the seas and all the things that move in them give thanks to You.

You answer me in the way that is right and good. It’s Your forgiveness and salvation I seek. You are the hope of all the ends of the earth and of the farthest seas. You have built the mountains by Your strength. You are dressed with power. You quiet the storm of the seas, the sound of its waves and the noise of the people. You make morning and evening call out for joy. It is Your great works that make all stand in awe.

O God, take away my sin and cleanse me. Wash me and I will be whiter than snow. Make me joyful and happy. Favor me because of Your loving-kindness. Let me always look for You. Let me be glad in You. For I long to experience the full joy of Your forgiveness.

A Fall Song of Worship and Praise adapted from Psalm 96

The Lord and our Savior calls us to worship Him

I will sing to you, Lord, a song from my heart. I will encourage all that I know to sing to You. Every day I will sing to You. I will honor Your name with my praise and worship. I know I have been called to make Your saving power known as part of my daily routine.

God, You are great and deserve to be given much praise. I will only honor You, Lord.psalm-96

I will not honor any false gods. I will tell of Your shining greatness in my world. I will tell everyone I know of Your wonderful goodness and blessings on my life. Lord, I am aware of Your wonderful creation. I see Your power in the night sky. You made the heavens.

God, You are great and deserve to be given much praise. I will only honor You, Lord.

Honor and great power are Yours, O Lord. Strength and beauty are in Your holy place. I will offer myself as a gift to You, Lord. I surrender my life for Your purpose. As I worship You, Lord, I realize I am unrighteous and unholy. I desire to mirror and to reflect Your holiness. Cleanse me from all ungodliness.

God, You are great and deserve to be given much praise. I will only honor You, Lord.

A Fall Prayer of Petition and Blessing adapted from Psalm 39, 54 & 71

Jehovah-Jireh – Provider

And my God will give you everything you need because of His great riches in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:19 (NLV)

A Prayer of a mature Woman: “Do not be far from me”mature-woman

And now, Lord, what do I wait for? Save me from all my sins. O Lord, hear my prayer and listen to my cry. Do not be quiet when You see my tears so I may have joy again before I go and am no more.

I have a safe place in you, O Lord. Let me never be ashamed. I will be glad to give You a gift on the altar. I will give thanks to Your name, O Lord, for it is good. For You have taken me out of all trouble. And my eyes have looked without fear.

Because You are right and good, take me out of any trouble I may have brought upon myself. Turn Your ear to me and save me.  Be a rock to me where I live, where I may always come and where I will be safe.

For You are my hope, O Lord God. You are my trust since I was young.  You have kept me safe from birth. It was You Who watched over me from the day I was born. My praise is always of You.

And now, Lord, what do I wait for? Save me from all my sins. O Lord, hear my prayer and listen to my cry. Do not be quiet when You see my tears so I may have joy again before I go and am no more.

Do not be far from me! Save me by Your name, O God. And stand with me by Your power. Hear my prayer, O God. Listen to the words of my mouth. You are my Helper. You are the One Who keeps my soul alive. I will always have hope and I will praise You more and more. My mouth will tell about how right and good You are and about Your saving acts all day long for there are more than I can know. I will come in the strength of You, Lord. I will tell about how right and good You are and You alone.

And now, Lord, what do I wait for? My hope is in You. Save me from all my sins. O Lord, hear my prayer and listen to my cry. Do not be quiet when You see my tears so I may have joy again before I go and am no more.

You have taught me from when I was young. And I will faithfully tell about Your great works. Even as I grow old and my hair is turning white, O God, please do not leave me alone. Let me be a testament of Your strength to those I love and a testament about Your power to all who are to come. O God, You are right and good, as the heavens are high. You have done great things, O God. Who is like You?

O Lord, let me know my end and how many days I have to live. Let me know that I do not have long to stay here. You have made each of my days as long as a hand is wide. My whole life is nothing in Your eyes. Everyone is only a breath, at best. They walk here and there like a shadow. They store up riches, not knowing who will gather them.

And now, Lord, what do I wait for? My hope is in You. Save me from all my sins. O Lord, hear my prayer and listen to my cry. Do not be quiet when You see my tears so I may have joy again before I go and am no more.
